I had forgotten that I sent Kaze and my book: Everyday Wonder, from Kansas to Kenya from Ecuador to Ethiopia to the 22nd Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards. We received their results this week with a statement from the Judge. The book received high numbers, but more important was the comments of the Judge.

Rebecca, Sally, Bobbie, Jo Ann, Belva and I spend a couple of delightful hours in the private room at the Sirloin Stockade telling stories about our lives. Catching up on “what are you doing now, how many grandkids, how many great-grandkids, and on and on.”

My New Neighbor

My New Neighbor

Somedays it is amazing who shows up on your doorstep…or on your light fixture in this case. A friend called yesterday afternoon to tell me about a bird nest by our garage door. A scissor-tail flycatcher is the identity her husband gives the momma. I rig up my camera and rush outdoors. By then it is mid-afternoon and no bird in their right mind will show themselves in that heat. My first thought…oh, another deserted nest in our yard. Two years in a row now we’ve had hummingbird nests in another spot…only to be deserted before any excitement of babies or fledging.
